The project
Rectal cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and colon cancer is the second most mortal cancer. Historically, rectum cancer patients had poor prognoses. With the advancement of modern surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, treatment and quality assurance registries, prognosis has improved significantly. Medicine continues to evolve moving us towards personalised medicine, which is the tailoring of prevention, treatment and follow-up for individual patients. Clinical prediction models consider tumour and patient heterogeneity, enabling the identification of clinicopathological factors that can accurately predict desired outcomes.
RECTI is part of a PhD project that aims to identify significant risk factors for rectal cancer patients and develop prediction models that can be used as decision-making tools for healthcare providers for personalised treatment and follow-up strategies.
